There’s something so familiar about these streets, a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that brings up endless memories from Paris. Brussels is the European capital, it’s a melting pot of culture full of diversity and uniqueness. Each and every place I’ve been here has reminded me of another city. A Hausmannian building here and there, a piece of Paris in Brussels. Some old houses that resemble those in Amsterdam, and little things here and there that remind me of my time in Switzerland. Now that we’ve settled in a little more there’s been more time to just go out and explore. To get outside the house and sit in foreign cafés, walk into little shops and find a place that inspires me. Street art is something I find fascinating, sometimes aesthetically pleasing, but most of all influential. Walking around today I stumbled upon a lot of it, and I photographed many walls to keep as inspiration for colors, patterns, and shapes for future looks. It was a beautiful day outside which radiated on the face of each and every person, including me. That dreary Sunday feeling was gone, replaced instead by total euphoria.
Sometimes you revolve an entire look around an item, and sometimes that item makes the whole look revolve around itself. This bright red hat, another Zara impulse buy, was demanding to be bought. It was the last one in the store, fit me and fell into the hands of an obsessive hat wearer. It’s such an unexpected piece, a vibrant hue in the middle of fall/winter is just about as surprising as wearing white after Labour Day (such a fashion cliché!) but it’s also unbelievably chic. This particular hue looks beautiful and also transitions well into the colder seasons when worn with navy blue or grey. I personally prefer wearing this shade with navy blue, but I thought it would be fun to experiment pairing it with grey, which was also elegant and paired well. I kept this look on the structured side with pieces like this pair of very, very skinny jeans and a long sleeved crop top, but I threw on this cardigan to balance out the overall shape. I didn’t think I would be wearing summer shoes into fall, but I guess you learn something new every day. Don’t get your hopes up guys, this is probably my last time wearing summer shoes for a couple of months. Sorry!
